By Heather Hogstrom
The Healthcare Financial Management Association’s (HFMA) 2013 National Institute will be held June 16 to 19 in Orlando, Florida. New this year is an opening reception held in the exhibit hall, providing attendees with refreshments, entertainment, prize drawings, exclusive exhibitor promotions, and networking opportunities.
This year’s keynote speakers are the following:
• Jim Collins, author of Good to Great, Built to Last, and How the Mighty Fall, will kick off the conference with a discussion on why some organizations thrive in uncertainty or chaos while others don’t, which is the topic of his latest book, Great by Choice.
• Joe Gibbs, a Hall of Fame football coach who led the Washington Redskins to four NFC Championship titles and three Super Bowl titles, and led his NASCAR team to win the Daytona 500 and two Winston Cup Championships, will draw on his leadership successes in his presentation “Perseverance, Teamwork, and Excellence” to help attendees determine their leadership formula, select the right staff, and establish team chemistry.
• Don Berwick, MD, former administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and founding CEO of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, will discuss the barriers, solutions, and opportunities involved in transforming America’s health care system into one that achieves better patient outcomes and addresses the need to provide high-quality care within our limited resources.
• Susan Cain, author of Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking, will present “Quiet: Harnessing the Strengths of Introverts to Change How We Work, Lead, and Innovate,” challenging traditional methods of developing leaders, managing teams, making smart hires, and stimulating innovation.
Other session topics include compliance, health care reform, EHR incentives, reimbursement, revenue cycle management, ICD-10, computer-assisted coding, risk management, and data analytics.
