HFMA Conference Preview

ANI 2014 Promotes Big Themes

The Healthcare Financial Management Association’s 2014 National Institute is set to take place from June 22 to 25 in Las Vegas. The conference will promote the following eight themes:

regulatory impact of reform/rules (featuring “Healthcare Reform: Where Are We Now?”);
business intelligence and analytics (featuring “Health Services Business Unit: IT Ramifications of the Era of Accountability”);
clinical integration/culture (featuring “Catalyzing Change: Aligning Nurses and Finance Professionals to Drive Value”);
organizing for value (featuring “Leveraging the New Business Model to Improve Value”);
revenue cycle (featuring “Patient Financial Communication in the Revenue Cycle”);
payment trends (featuring “Emerging Payment Models in Response to Purchaser Needs”);
finance and operations (featuring “The Capital Markets and the Health System Sector”); and
cost management/margin transformation (featuring “Engaging Physicians to Deliver High Value Care”).

Daniel Pink, a motivation expert and the author of Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, will deliver the opening keynote address, “Leadership and the New Principles of Influence.” For leaders looking for perspective on how to influence and motivate others, Pink will identify specific skills that will improve professional effectiveness.

Atul Gawande, MD, a physician leader and the author of Better: A Surgeon’s Notes on Performance, will deliver a keynote address on “Leading the Change: Healthcare in Transition.” In an era of health care reform, Gawande will offer his perspective on clinical transformation and the shift from independent practices to team-based delivery in highly integrated care systems.

Liz Wiseman, a leadership expert and the author of Multipliers: How the Best Leaders Make Everyone Smarter, will deliver the final keynote address, “Genius or Genius Maker? Engaging Talent Effectiveness.” Leaders and team members interested in making their team more engaged and productive will benefit from Wiseman’s five disciplines of multipliers and her advice on how to fully engage the talent around and within us.
