Leah Kiesow, MBA, CTR, was installed as the president of the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) at its Annual Educational Conference in San Antonio on May 23. In her role as president, Kiesow will represent the organization at regional and national meetings and support its mission to promote education, credentialing, and advocacy for cancer registry professionals.
Kiesow has a well-established career in cancer registry management and earned her Certified Tumor Registrar credential in 2008. She is the director of the cancer registry at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. The center is part of the Temple University Health System and is one of the leading cancer research and treatment centers in the United States. Kiesow has been an active member of NCRA for more than 10 years and has held a variety of leadership positions with the association, including editor of The Connection, NCRA’s newsletter, and serving as a member of the advisory board of the Journal of Registry Management, NCRA’s peer-reviewed research publication. She was also a member of NCRA’s advisory board that developed the “Registry Perspectives” column for the publication ADVANCE for Health Information Professionals, and she wrote several articles for the column.
Kiesow will focus her year as president on promoting issues of importance to her and the cancer registry profession. She will concentrate on encouraging the growth of current and future leaders within the profession and increase the awareness of the value of public reporting of cancer care measures and the role of registry data.
